Butyl

Butyl Rubber offers excellent sealing properties against water, dust, gasses and vapour. When accurately combined with synthetic polymers and inert mineral powders, it can be blended into an homogenous, sticky and permanently flexible compound, ideal for extruding into preformed strips.

Wound into rolls on release-coated liner paper, these flexible strips are known to the industry as butyls, double-sided or butyl tapes. Butyl Tape is a single, solid material throughout - varieties featuring cross-linked rubber offer a higher adhesive take in any circumstances (including, for premium grades, under water), and further advantages in strength and elasticity, easily conforming to irregular surfaces. Optimum performance in all types of butyl can only be achieved where the combination of materials is carefully balanced and properly processed.

Because of its flexibility, long life and adhesive properties throughout, butyl tape provides a huge variety of reliable seals and joining systems. Our market pages include examples of the wide variety of applications where sealflex butyl tapes have proved their suitability.
